The study seeks to explore the social condition at HaThiya Complex, by analyzing the area’s character and needs, mapping the local population and Jaffa’s housing trends, and analyzing the space surrounding Bloomfield Stadium, as well as by reviewing case studies of stadiums around the world that contribute to neighborhood renewal. The study includes a review of permanent museums, temporary galleries and spaces that were allocated for artists within granaries in various cities, which have promoted the city’s cultural activity and have contributed to the renewal of neighborhoods and industrial areas. Converting flour mills to housing, employment and public spaces (libraries, student dorms, schools, etc.) satisfies current needs while also supporting processes of urban renewal. The study is accompanied by recommendations for interim use in the granaries that are designated for preservation, in light of development trends in the area.

The study examines the potential for significant urban development in suburban areas using the Metro system, and focuses on the Kehilat Saloniki Complex – the planned location of a future Metro station. Examples of suburban metro stations around the world indicate that a wide-spread process of change is possible even around stations that are located outside the city center. Saturated construction in the area can be increased and optimized by implementing a long-term vision, which includes reimagining the public space, upgrading the road network, expanding construction rights, rezoning, and utilizing adjacent plots, to trigger regional change. The study includes insights for promoting a comprehensive urban scheme at the Saloniki Complex, and for taking advantage of the opportunities posed by the mass-transit system to produce private and public benefits.

In many cities, nightlife culture is what draws in tourism and communities of music, art and culture, creating a unique urban identity. It is a sanctuary from urban bustle and overload, facilitating a temporary existence of escapism into a musical, sensory experience. Many of the sites that house this rapidly-evolving dynamic culture are being threatened by urban development. In recent years, Israeli night life has been under threat of extinction due to strict regulations and accelerated urban development, which are pushing nightlife culture out.
